The Alberto de Agostini National Park is located south of Punta Arenas and west of Puerto Williams. This is a park made up of numerous glaciers that allow you to admire the beauty of the southern zone.

Its main attraction is the Cordillera de Darwin, located in the southwestern part of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, it is covered by ice fields and includes the Buckland and Sarmiento mountains. The Darwin mountain range, together with the surrounding sectors, is part of the Pacific Patagonian Glaciers region, since most of the rivers and glaciers drain into the Pacific Ocean.

GASTRONOMY

Among the most typical products that you can find in the Magallanes Region are shellfish, such as spider crab, lobster, oysters and clams. These are within the reach of any pocket and can be eaten in different preparations. Along with seafood, a lot of salmon is consumed and this can be found in many varieties.

Meats also have a strong presence in the cuisine of the extreme south. The roast on the stick accompanied by potatoes cooked in one of the most typical dishes of the area together with the Magellan lamb loin.

Finally, in this region you can find the most characteristic fruit of the extreme south, El Calafate, a fruit that is within the category of “berries” and that can only be found in this part of the world. With the calafate many preparations are made from sauces, jams, kuchenes and even alcoholic beverages to pass the cold like the “Calafate sour”.

In the Alberto de Agostini National Park the climate is temperate cold, humid. The average annual temperature is a maximum of 9 ° C and the minimum 2 ° C. In autumn and winter is when the precipitations increase considerably.

Wear clothing suitable for wind and rain as the weather changes constantly. This is: waterproof jackets and pants, t-shirts, thermal gloves, windbreaker, trekking shoes. Include lighter t-shirts and shoes for sunny days.
